76 Acre Brush Fire

On January 16, 2022, the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the area of Meadow Springs Estates. The Texas Forest Service determined that the fire consumed 76 acres. All public and firefighters are safe, with no injuries reported. There were no structures burned as a result of this fire. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.

Due to high winds, the fire spread quickly towards Voss Middle School and Farm-to-Market Rd 3351. Voss Middle School was placed on shelter in place status by the Bergheim VFD until all students could be safely and systematically released from school. In addition, the businesses at the corner of Highway 46 and FM 3351 were asked to evacuate.  

This massive undertaking utilized more than 35 fire apparatus and over 100 personnel. The fire control and containment could not have been safely and effectively completed without the mutual aid of our Kendall, Comal, and Bexar Counties firefighters; State and Local Law Enforcement; and the resources provided by the State and local agencies listed below:

Bergheim VFD also wishes to give a big shout out to Bergheim VFD Assist - Angela Nelson Durr and Patricia Keele Hausman , Bergheim Pizza Company , Dominos pizza , and Jessica at the Circle K/Valero in Bergheim for the massive food and hydration delivery;
and Rafael Rivas II for the BBQ lunch delivery the following day. Lastly, thanks to Five Star Towing for their quick response and Miguel & Leugim Tire Shop for the rapid tire change to put a Brush Truck back in service during this fire event.

As a continued reminder - the Kendall County Commissioners reinstated the BURN BAN on January 24, 2022, and the BURN BAN is still ON. We ask that you always call Boerne dispatch at 830-249-8645 before burning to verify whether or not a burn ban is active in the county and notify when and where you will be burning.
