Insurance Services Office (ISO) operates the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) nationwide, evaluating community fire prevention and suppression capabilities to assign a Public Protection Classification (PPC®)—a key factor most insurers use to determine home and business insurance premiums. Communities with better PPC scores typically benefit from lower fire insurance costs. Homeowners Insurance/ISO Information

Homeowners are sometimes asked by their insurance company to provide specific information about local fire protection—including the responding fire department, distance to a fire station, water supply or hydrant availability, ISO classification, staffing, and available fire protection resources.


To help our residents be prepared to answer these questions, Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department has developed a Fire Protection Information for Homeowners Insurance document.


The document provides information about Bergheim VFD’s ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC), station locations, 24/7 staffing, apparatus and water supply capabilities, emergency medical response, and automatic and mutual aid resources. It also includes fillable sections where homeowners can enter information specific to their property.


A few important notes:

  • Property-specific distances and water supply information should be verified by the homeowner.
  • Insurance companies may evaluate individual properties differently based on location and other underwriting criteria.
  • Bergheim VFD does not determine insurance premiums, eligibility, or the final PPC classification applied to an individual property.


We encourage residents to download the document, complete the property-specific information, and keep a copy available when speaking with their insurance agent or carrier.
