Job Title: Part-Time Firefighter (TCFP Certified)


Reports To: Shift Officer / Fire Chief

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD)

Pay Type: Hourly

Schedule: Variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays


Job Summary:


Under general supervision, the Part-Time Firefighter responds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. This position participates in fire suppression, EMS, prevention, training, station maintenance, and public education activities. All duties are performed in accordance with TCFP regulations, local SOPs, and departmental policies.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification:
  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Structural Fire Suppression/Firefighter 1 certification (or higher)
  • Current Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) EMT-Basic certification or higher
  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Licenses:
  • Valid Texas Class B (exempt) Driver License (or able to obtain within probationary period)
  • Experience:
  • Prior fire service experience preferred, but not required
  • Other Requirements:
  • Pass background, drug screen and reference checks
  • Successfully complete the BVFD Probationary Manual
  • Must maintain all required certificationsEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responds to fire, rescue, EMS, and hazardous materials incidents
  • Performs firefighting duties including suppression, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul
  • Conducts emergency medical care within scope of DSHS - EMT B or higher certification
  • Operates fire apparatus and equipment as trained and authorized
  • Participates in training and drills to maintain operational readiness
  • Maintains fire station, apparatus, tools, and equipment
  • Completes required reports, checklists, and documentation
  • Assists with fire prevention activities and public education programs
  • Adheres to safety practices and departmental policies at all times
  • Works effectively with volunteers and other emergency personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Work involves heavy physical activity in hazardous and stressful environments
  • May be exposed to extreme heat, smoke, heights, hazardous materials, and adverse weather
  • Must be able to wear and operate SCBA, full PPE, and firefighting tools
  • Required to lift and carry 50+ lbs, perform manual labor, and work in confined spaces


Compensation:

This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefited position. Pay is based on BVFD budget and candidate experience.
