Become a Volunteer Firefighter

Chief Adam Hawkins and the BVFD Command Staff want to thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department. We appreciate your willingness to serve our community.

To begin the process, please complete the BVFD Volunteer Firefighter Membership Application

Volunteer Membership Process

Once we receive your application, the process includes:

  1. Application Review & Background Investigation
  2. Attend a minimum of three BVFD training meetings. These do not have to be consecutive, but should be completed within a reasonable period unless unusual circumstances prevent it. Current training dates and times can be found on the BVFD Department Calendar.
  3. Complete the required introductory online training, before your application is presented for a membership vote:
  • FEMA ICS-100
  • FEMA ICS-200
  • FEMA IS-700
  • FEMA IS-800
  • Courage to Be Safe®
  • PPE101 Firefighter Cancer Prevention/Health Training

Please provide your course completion certificates to BVFD via the upload below, so we can document completion of the required training.

Membership Vote & Onboarding

After you have completed the initial requirements and attended at least three training meetings, your application may be presented to the BVFD membership for consideration. A two-thirds affirmative vote of the membership is required for acceptance.

Once approved, you will become a probationary member and begin the BVFD onboarding and probationary process. During this period, we will work with you on department orientation, PPE and equipment, system access, additional training, and the requirements of the BVFD Probationary Manual.

We know many of our volunteers balance work, family, and other commitments. If circumstances affect your ability to complete the initial requirements within a reasonable timeframe, please communicate with us.

We look forward to meeting you and having you train with our team. If you have questions click this link info@bergheimvfd.org
