STATEWIDE RECOGNITION FOR BERGHEIM VFD & KENDALL COUNTY!

On October 13, 2026, Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department was proudly represented at Kendall County Commissioners Court as the County received the 2026 Texas Association of Counties (TAC) County Best Practices Award!
This prestigious award recognizes the innovative partnership between Kendall County and Bergheim VFD to address the challenges of providing reliable, around-the-clock emergency services in a fast growing rural community.
What makes this accomplishment special?
Bergheim VFD took on the significant responsibilities of developing and managing a part-time staffing program — including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, payroll, training, and personnel administration — to strengthen emergency response while maintaining our volunteer foundation.
This commitment has helped us move toward consistent 24/7 station staffing, but our work is far from finished.
Our vision is to continue building toward a minimum four-person crew on duty around the clock. As our community grows, so do emergency call volumes, operational demands, and the resources necessary to provide safe, effective emergency response.
Achieving that goal will require continued collaboration, thoughtful long-term planning, and sustainable financial support. Today’s award recognizes what we’ve accomplished together — and reinforces the importance of investing in the next chapter of emergency services for our community.
Special thanks to Andra M. Wisian, Kendall County Commissioner Precinct 2 and Deborah De La Cruz-Riebe-contracts Mngr/legal Asst. for their efforts in preparing and submitting the award application, and to Tramer Woytek of TAC for presenting this special recognition.
Bergheim VFD Assistant Chief Kevin Meyers, joined by Board Members Keith Lynch and Phil Ochoa, expressed the department’s sincere appreciation to Commissioners Court for its continued partnership, support, and commitment to strengthening emergency services for our growing community.
This marks Kendall County’s first TAC award in at least a decade!
Proud of our progress. Committed to our community. Focused on the future.
